The history of mankind has been divided by those who push through and decide to succeed and those who stop short. Those who stop short give reasons why, like “I did not know this was going to happen, so I was unprepared,” “This unfairly happened to me,” and “It’s too hard.” There are many reasons – especially through challenging times – why success can be elusive.
The economic downturn throughout most of the 2000’s created times of doubt throughout the business world, but even during the uncertainty we overcame and succeeded because of the spirit of determination that flowed in franchising. Businesses that succeed no matter the challenge do so because leaders inspire those around them.
Being a leader of people, running a successful, profitable business and making a difference in people’s lives is not a job for the timid or faint of heart. It requires determination, skill, courage and tenacity. There will be failure and success, but remember what Sir Winston Churchill once said. “Success is not final, failure is not fatal; it is the courage to continue that counts.” Success is an ongoing process of planning where you want to be, verbalizing the vision to your team and keeping the determination to act on that plan each and every day.
Leading your business, takes the heart of a warrior. Our two most powerful weapons are courage and persistence. Nothing can stop a person armed with both – and you have them!
It is not what is happening that will decide where we go. How we respond will determine our achievement. This sign was posted outside the door of a Navy Seal in Bethesda Naval Hospital: “I’ll have a full recovery – that’s the utmost physically my body has the ability to heal. Then I will push about 20 percent further, through sheer mental tenacity. If you’re not prepared for that, go elsewhere.”
Plan now to succeed. Make your stand. Post your plan. Know where you are in relation to your plan. Create your action steps. By being in business, you’ve already shown the courage to do the most difficult part. The rest is persistence and tenacity. Fears are just paper tigers. You can do anything you decide to do.
